Pablo Picasso used newspaper articles (papiers collés) to
make this painting. He cut and pasted a newspaper (‘Le Journal’) and he used
charcoal. The texts on the newspaper refers to the Balkan Wars, to the unrest of
the miners in the Nord and Pas-de-Calais departments and it refers to the
critical issues debated in Parliament, in chambers and to local announcements
and advertisements.
