Victorian Era

John Ruskin

John Ruskin was born on the 8th February of 1819 in London. He was the only son of John James Ruskin and Mary Cock. His family moved to a house with a large garden at 28 Herne Hill.  Ruskin was one of the best figures of the Victorian era; he was a poet, artist, and critic. John Ruskin took an interest in art and he gained the reputation as a skilled water-colourist. Ruskin’s drawings are success for both as a record of his mind and as works of great beauty. He had a great passion for the work of Joseph Mallord William Turner and soon after Ruskin graduated, he met Turner and began to purchase his work. Ruskin was attracted by the work of Dante Gabriel Rossetti and the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. Ruskin became a good friend with Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Edward Burne-Jones and John Everett Millais. Ruskin died on the 20th January of 1900.
